16 year olds are limited up to 50cc only (L plates, no passengers, no motoways) you can only take your test on a moped, and when you pass you are awarded a moped full license status. You can then carry passengers. 17 year olds up to 125cc only (L plates, no passengers, no motorways) 17 to 20 year olds You can take your test on a learner legal 125cc machine, this would give you an A2 license, this means for 2 years from your pass date, you are restricted to riding a motorcycle with a maximum power output of 33bhp. The power restriction is not the “cc” of the bike, this could be from 250cc to more than 1000cc, all you need to do is have the bike restricted by authorised dealer, after 2 years your licence automatically upgrades to a full licence.
