Steve's Profile
I joined ride safe late 2007 and became qualified as a CBT instructor early 2008.
I bought my first bike in 1977. It was a second hand MZ250. I couldn’t drive a car and needed some transport to get to work. Back in those days you could just stick ‘L’ plates on any bike up to 250cc and you were away! I had the bike for two weeks during which time it spent more time broken down at the side of the road than actually going but those two weeks were enough to create a passion in me for riding motorbikes. Consequently, in the third week I cashed all my savings in and bought a brand new Kawasaki Z200. Nine months and 18,000 later this was traded in for a new Kawasaki Z650 which took me and my future wife touring all over Britain and Ireland. We loved the Z650 but as the bike was our all year round transport I decided to trade it in for a Honda CX500 with a Polaris fairing. Not as much fun as the Z650 but more practical – especially as we went on it touring Scotland for our honeymoon! Inevitably, along came the kids, out went the bike and in came the car. I promised myself though that one day I would get us a big sports tourer. Twenty five years later, the kids grew up and we got a Kawasaki ER6F – just to get us back in to biking again you understand. That was the plan anyway. The thing is I now use the ER6 for CBT training and we use our Yamaha FJR1300 for touring on. They do say that everything comes to he who waits!
